Ripple Factor:

The purpose of a rectifier is to convert ac into dc. The output of a rectifier is pulsating in nature i.e. it contains ac as well as dc components. This ac component is called ripple which is removed using a filter circuit. The ratio of RMS value of ac component present in the waveform to the dc component in the waveform is called as ripple factor.

$R = \dfrac{\text{RMS value of AC component}}{\text{DC or average value of output.}}$

Voltage regulation:

Ideally the average rectifier output voltage should remain constant. But practically it varies with the changes in the load current .Voltage current is defined as:

$\text{Voltage regulation} = \dfrac{\text{avg. load voltage at no load – avg. load voltage at full load}}{\text{avg. load at full. Load}} \times 100%$
