Air filtration involves air cleaning to remove dusts to kill bacteria.
There are different types of air filters which are used for removing dust from air. Adoption of a particular air filter depends on nature of dust, type of dust, amount of air handled and required cleanliness in the air-conditioned space. The various types of air filters are as follows:
Dry-filters
Viscous-filters
Wet-filters
Electric filters
Centrifugal dust collectors.
Dry-Filters
These are usually made of cloth, coarse paper, wool or cellulose felt. The dust in the air will be trapped or screened when it is passed through this filtering medium. Velocity of air allowed ranges between 2 to 15 m/min. Filtering materials are often arranged in bag forms to provide necessary surface. These filters are capable of collecting 99% or more dusts as small as 0.5 micron. A bag form dry filter is shown in figure.
