You are administering the 24000 workstations in an organization. You are pinging each station periodically. The message size in both directions is 128 bytes long.

The NMS you are using is on a 10-Mbps LAN, which functions with 30% efficiency. What would be the frequency of your ping if you were not to exceed 5% overhead?

No. of workstations in an organization = 24000

Message size = 128 bytes long

LAN = 10Mbps

Efficiiency = 30% efficiency

Traffic on the server =

Maximum round trip = 10 Mbps

$ 10 \times 10^6 \text{bits/sec} \times 0.3 = 10^6 = y$

$256 \times 8 bits + 256 \times 8 \times 0.05 = x$

$x = 2048 + 102.4$

Frequency of ping = $\frac{y}{x}$ = $\frac{10^6}{2150.4}$

Frequency of ping = 465.02
