1 (a) Sketch within a cubic unit cell the following planes:
(100), (110), (111) and (011).(4 marks)
1 (b) Differentiate between slip and twinning.(4 marks)
1 (c) Explain the classification of composites.(4 marks)
2 (a) The planes in a crystalline solid intersect the crystal axes at
(2a, 2b, c), (2a, b, 2c) and (a, b, c). Calculate the Miller Indices
of this plane.(4 marks)
2 (b) Explain any two Imperfection in Crystal (or Lattices) from the
list given below:
(i) Edge Dislocation
(ii) Stacking fault
(iii) Low angle boundary.

2 (c) A glass fibre reinforced epoxy matrix composite contains
60 volume percent of continuous glass fibre. Determine Young's
modulus of the composite assuming longitudinal loading condition.
Modulus of elasticity for glass fibre is 72 GPa and that of
epoxy is 2.4 Gpa.(4 marks)
