2 (a) What are the parameters to be considered in choosing a site for a coal fired thermal power plant(10 marks)
2 (b) Briefly discuss current energy scenario in Maharashtra. Answer should highlight power scenario in Mumbai.(10 marks)
3 (a) Describe the various methods of improving; the performance of a gas turbine power plant.(10 marks)
3 (b) From the following estimate the generating cost and also find if any reserve is available
Annual load factor - 60%
Capacity factor - 50%
Installed capacity of the plant ~ 140 MW
Capital cost of the plant - Rs. 200 × 106
Annual cost of coal, oil and salaries Rs. 20× 106
Rate of interest - 5%of capital

4 (a) (ii) Briefly explain different sub systems in D. G. Plant.(5 marks)
5 (a) A 2.4 hrs load duration curve on a small power plant is a straight line between 6 MW 10 and 2 MW respectively. The plant capacity is 7 MW. Find the plant load factor and plant capacity factor. If the power charges are Fis. 2.5 per kWh, find the charge to be paid per day.(10 marks)
5 (b) What are the different ways of ash disposal? Describe any one method in detail.(10 marks)
6 (a) State advantages of gas turbine plant over Diesel and thermal power plant(8 marks)

Take Turbine efficiency 90%, generator efficiency 95% and 30 days in a month.(12 marks) 7 (a) Explain CANDU type nuclear reactor with neat sketch mentioning type of fuel and moderator.(10 marks) 7 (b) A residential consumer has the following connected load : Four tube lights of 40W each. Three Fans of 60 W each, Two night lamps of 15 W each and television of 100 W. Use of electricity during a day is as follows
12 midnight to 6 am. :2 Fans + 2 Night lamps
6 am. to 9 am. : 1 Fan + 1 Tube light
9 am. to 3 p. m. : Nil
3 pm. to 6 pm. : 3 Fans 7: Television
6 pin. to 9 pm. : 2 Fans + 4 Tube lights
9 pm. to 12 midnight 3 Fans + 2 Tube lights + Television.
