National Highways (NH): are main highways running through the length & breadth of India, connecting major parts, foreignhighways, Capitals of large state and large industrials & tourist centers including road required for strategic movements for the defence of India.

NH4:THANE-PUNE –BELAGUM-HUBLI-BANGLORE-CHENNAI State highways (SH): are arterial road of a state, connecting the national highways of adjacent state, district head quarters and important cities. Major District Roads (MDR): are important roads within a district serving areas of production & providing them with outlet to market centre. Village Roads (VR): are Roads connecting villages or groups of villages with each other to the nearest roads of a higher category.
