ANS: ACCIDENT STUDIES The problem of accident is very acute in road transportation due to 1) Complex flow patterns of vehicular traffic 2) Presence of mixed type of vehicles 3) The pedestrians on the road. One of the main objectives of traffic engineering is to provide safe traffic movements. Objectives 1) To study the causes of accidents and to suggest corrective treatment at potential locations. 2) To evaluate existing design, regulation and control measures. 3) To support proposed changes in design, regulation and control measures in the selected zone. 4) To carry out ‘before and after studies’ after implementing changes and to demonstrate the improvement in the accident problem. 5) To make computations of financial loss due to accident.
