5 gm of vegetable oil was saponified using excess alcoholic KOH (0.5 N). The mixture required 15 ml of 0.05 N HCl While blank titration required 45 ml of HCl. Find the Saponification value of oil. Weight of oil 5 gm

Sap value = (Blank titration reading – Back titration reading) X N KOH X 56 /weight of oil

= (45 -15) x 0.5 x 56 / 5

= 168 mg of KOH /gm of oil
