Frequency Stability:

It is expected that the oscillator frequency should remain constant. It should not be dependent on the factors such as changes in temperature or supply voltage and so on. Hartley and colpitt’s oscillator do not have high frequency. stability.

Reasons for poor frequency. stability:

The collector base internal capacitances affects the value of capacitance in feedback circuit. This will change frequency of oscillations.

The transistor parameter depend on temperature. Due to change in their values, frequency. of oscillations will change.

Remedy:

Use a temperature stabilized chamber to house the oscillator circuit. The temperature of chambers maintained constant at desired level. This will avoid frequency. changes due to drift in temperature. Use voltage regulators to keep the supply voltage constant,

Use a special type of oscillator “Clapp oscillator”

Advantages:

  1. Simple construction
  2. Possible to obtain oscillations at high frequency.

Disadvantages:

  1. Difficult to adjust feedback as it demands change in capacitor values.
  2. Poor frequency. stability.

Applications:

  1. As a high frequency generator.
