Assumptions

  • The footing is a strip footing.
  • The base of the footing is laid at a shallow depth.
  • The shearing resistance of the soil between the surface and the depth Df is neglected
  • General shear failure is assumed.
  • Shear strength is governed by Mohr-Coulomb criterion.
