ROM stands for Read Only Memory.
It cannot be changed and it retains its contents even when the computer is shut off. It is generally used to start your computer up and load the operating system.
A ROM is built out of an array of semiconductor devices such as diodes, FETs interconnected to, from the AND and OR arrays.
The ROM is a memory that can be read from, but not typically written to, during execution of an embedded system.
