Sr No	WATER TUBE BOILERS	FIRE TUBE BOILERS
1.	These are the boilers in which the water passes through the tubes and hot gases pass outside the tube	These are the boilers in which hot gases pass through the long steel tubes around which the water to be converted to steam circulates.
2.	These are also called as “water in tube” boilers.	These are also called as “fire in tube” boilers.
3.	Pressure limit of these boilers is very high compared to fire tube boilers.	Pressure limit is relatively low and is approximately $17.5 kg/cm^2.$
4.	Efficiency is high compared to fire tube boilers. (Around 85-90%)	Efficiency is less. (Around 80-85%)
5.	Steam producing capacity is higher as it can have single or multiple drums.	Steam producing capacity is limited.
6.	Higher initial cost	Lower initial cost.
7.	These are generally used for power and heat supply applications.	These are generally used for water heating purposes.
8.	Needs less inspection compared to fire tube boilers.	Needs more inspection compared to water tube boilers.
9.	Need to be assembled or re-erected at the site.	These are packed and ready for the work at the site
10.	E.g. Babcock and Wilcox boiler	E.g. Lancashire boiler.
