A plane grating just resolve two lines in the second order.

Calculate the grating element if $dλ = 6A^0 , λ = 6 × 10^{-5}$ and width of ruled surface is 2cm.

Given:

width of ruled surface, L= 2 cm

$dλ = 6A^0 = 6 × 10^{-8}$

$λ = 6 × 10^{-8}cm$

$m = 2$

To find:

Grating Element (d = a + b)

Solution:

We know,

$R.P = \frac{λ}{dλ} = mN$

$\frac{6 × 10^{-5}}{6 × 10^{-8}} = (2)N$

$N = 500$

Now,

$d = \frac{L}{N} = \frac{2}{500}$

$d = 4 × 10^{-3}cm$
