• Total Internal Reflection:- It is a phenomenon that happens when a light wave travelling from denser medium towards the rarer medium strikes the medium boundary at an angle larger than critical angle causing it to reflect back in the same medium.

• Numerical Aperture:- It is a dimensionless number that characteristics the range of angles over which the optical fibre can accept the light.

• Acceptance Angle:- The maximum angle w.r.t. the axis of the optical fibre for which the light will propagate through the fibre is called acceptance angle.
