pressure angle:

• Angle made by the direction of motion of follower and the normal to the pitch curve at any point is called pressure angle.
• It varies from maximum to minimum.

Significance

• Higher value of pr. angle increases the horizontal force acting on the follower. This could jam the motion of follower in the guide.
• Lower value of Pr. angle increases the weight of cam and it becomes bulky, thus increasing the inertial force.

Hence, an optimal value of pressure angle is chosen.
