i. Videoconferencing is a meeting or conference between two or more participants residing at the different locations, by using computer networks to transmit and exchange audio, video and audio-video data.

ii. It started becoming more useful in the mid 1960s.

iii. Videoconferencing took the official meetings online. It saved time and money of the organization. Videoconferencing technology enables two way audio-video transmissions simultaneously.

iv. Participants at distant locations interact with each other with the help of following systems:

a) Video input : Video camera/web camera

b) Video output :Monitor/T.V./Projector/printer

c) Audio input : Microphones

d) Audio output :Loud speakers

e) Data transfer :Local Area Network(LAN) or the internet

v. It not only makes it possible to transmit audio data but also it use CODEC.

General guidelines for videoconferencing are as follows:

a) Check for audio-video configuration after connected to videoconferencing.

b) Keep the mic muted when you are not speaking.

c) Tune the proper audio level.

d) Decide the sequence of speakers in advance to avoid congestion over the network.

e) Avoid excessive body movements while on video conferencing.

f) Keep the camera focus on the main chair.

g) Switch off your mobile phones while video conferencing is in progress.

h) Do not touch mic unnecessarily.

i) Do not disturb the conferencing by interacting with the other participants unnecessarily.

j) Conduct one mock conferencing session before you begin the actual video conferencing.
