| Congestion Control | Flow control |
|---|---|
| When too many packets are present in a part of a subnet, the performance degrades. This situation is called congestion. | The receiver will keep losing some of the frames simply because they are arriving too quickly, the solution to this problem is to introduce the flow control. |
| Congestion control makes t sure that the subnet is able to carry the offended traffic. | Flow control is related to point to point traffic. |
| Congestion control is dependent on the behavior of all the hosts, all the routers and other factors which reduce the carrying capacity of a subnet. | Flow control involves some kind of feedback. |
