TAKEN FROM CREDIT BASED PATTERN

Total marks: 80
Total time: 3 Hours
INSTRUCTIONS
(1) Question 1 is compulsory.
(2) Attempt any three from the remaining questions.
(3) Draw neat diagrams wherever necessary.

1(a) Which features of c-programming may be specifically useful in embedded system? How?
(5 marks) 9795

1(b) Task scheduling policies(any three) and it's impact on average waiting, turn-around time.
(5 marks) 10279

1(c) Compare I2C and CAN communication protocol.
(5 marks) 00

1(d) Explain blue-tooth communication protocol.
(5 marks) 9773

2(a) Describe design metrics and optimization challenges for embedded system.
(10 marks) 9769

2(b) What are the challenges while meeting low power consumption, performance, low-cost requirement for an embedded system. Explain how they affect each other.
(10 marks) 9770

3(a) Heart is having a natural pulse generator which is responsible to rhythmically beating of heart. Malfunctioning of that leads to arythmic heart beating. Design a pacemaker (pulse generator) which generates electrical pulses to trigger heart, if it senses irregular (or low) heart rate. This pacemaker is typically inplanted inside body near chest. Assume appropriate design challenge and design an embedded system which can sense and trigger (if required) heart to bring heart back to normal rythmic beating. For this design develop

(a) Functional model/ FSM which describes functioning of system.

(b) Hardware block diagram which describes typical hardware building blocks.

(c) Software architecture which describe typical functions/drivers/tasks required in program.

(d) Discuss special design challenges for this design and suggest solutions/approach.

(e) Suggest list of components with justification.

(10 marks) 9802

3(b) Compare Cortex-M3, Cortex-R4 and Cortex-A8.
(10 marks) 00

4(a) Interface (draw circuit diagram) of any input (error) and output interface with any microcontroller. Explain its functioning.
(10 marks) 00

4(b) Explain and Compare any two scheduling method in RTOS.
(10 marks) 9793

5) Design a media player (audio only) for following features.

-i) Stored media

-ii) FM player

-iii) MP3 Encoding/Decoding processing support

-iv) Output speaker

v) Display
