1) Determine the size of a rubber canvas flat belt to transmit 5.5 KW from an electric motor rotating at 960 rpm to an intermediate shaft of the machine tool. The reduction ratio is2.8 approximately and Expected life is 1200 hours. (May 2019, 10Marks)


2) A V- Belt drive is to transmit 15 KW to a compressor. The motor speed is 1100 rpm and compressor pulley run at 400 rpm. The coefficient of friction between the belt and pulley is 0.25. The compressor operates for 10-12 hrs/ day. Design the drive for the above application. The design should include the following

  1. Section of V-Belt material
  2. Exact center distance
  3. Belt size
  4. Number of belts
  5. Life of belt.
