In this configuration, the input is applied between the base and the emitter of a transistor and the output is taken between collector and emitter.
The name Common-Emitter is given to this arrangement as Emitter is common to Input and Output ports of the circuit.
The input current is IB and the output current is IC. The input voltage is VBE and the output voltage is VCE.
