- 3-phase induction motor works based on faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. When the stator of a 3-phase induction motor is connected to a 3-phase supply, a rotating magnetic field is produced which rotates at synchronous speed with respect to stator.
Production of rotating magnetic field in 3-phase induction motor:
- Let’s consider the stator of a 3-phase, 6 pole induction motor having 3-phase (R-B-G) concentrated winding (for simplicity). When the stator is connected to a 3-phase supply having phase sequence as R-B-G, a rotating magnetic field is produced as shown in figure below.
