The fig above illustrates five types of data bursts used for various control and traffic bursts.

  • Normal bursts are used for both TCH and DCCH transmissions on both forward and reverse link.
  • FCCH and SCH bursts are used inn TS 0 of specific frames to broadcast the frequency and time synchronisation control messages on the forward link.
  • RACH burst is used by all mobiles to access service from any base station
  • The dummy burst is used as filler information for unused time slots on the forward link
