Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This is a type of greenhouse effect.

Reasons for global warming are-

  • Burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas for energy.
  • Cutting down and burn forests to create pastures and plantations.
  • Accumulation of carbon which overloads our atmosphere.
  • Certain waste management and agricultural practices aggravate the problem by releasing other potent global warming gases, such as methane and nitrous oxide, etc.

Effects of global warming are-

  • Accelerating sea level rise and increased coastal flooding.
  • Longer and more damaging wildfire seasons.
  • More frequent and intense heat waves.
  • National landmarks at risk.
  • Widespread forest death in the Rocky Mountains.
  • Costly and growing health impacts.
  • An increase in extreme weather events.
  • Heavier precipitation and flooding.
  • More severe droughts in some areas.
  • Increased pressure on groundwater supplies.
  • Growing risks to our electricity supply.
  • Changing seasons.
  • Melting ice.
  • Disruptions to food supplies.
  • Destruction of coral reefs.
  • Plant and animal range shifts.
