Reheat Rankine cycle
1 Answer

Sometimes, when the vapour is expanding inside a turbine, its energy becomes quite low. As a result it does not have sufficient energy to run the turbine further.

To increase its power output, a reheater is used between the HP and LP turbines.

Steam from HP turbine is reheated with the help of a flue or electric heater. It is then passed into LP turbine to get the remaining output

The advantages of using a reheat cycle are higher thermal efficiency, reduced feed water pump power, smaller condenser, smaller boiler, long life of the turbine and less handling of the fuel and firing requirement.
